Facts About Camp Possibilities

•Camp Possibilities was begun in 2002 as 501c3 non-profit to serve children living with diabetes

•Activities at camp include swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, basketball, field games, nature walk, talent show, dance and more in a medically safe environment

•While it’s not uncommon for us to hold dedicated diabetes education sessions at camp, the most valuable educational opportunities frequently come in the form of teachable moments which occur when the campers interact with our medical staff and their counselors during insulin administration and throughout the day

•Camper to Medical Staff ratio is 1:6/8

•Camper to Counselor ratio is 1:3

•Our volunteers number over 75 and collectively give over 5,000 hours of their time.

•Volunteers, including pediatric endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians and other medical staff collectively give over $100,000 of their time, knowledge and service.

•Camp Possibilities receives over $100,000 of in-kind diabetes supplies

•About 35-40% of all campers receive some form of financial assistance.

•The actual cost to Camp Possibilities is $1,775 per camper for the week of camp, $725 more than we charge. Families, who are able to pay the actual cost, or any portion of it, are encouraged to do so. Payments above the amount of the program fee are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
